Places to see at Bhagabatipur: Remember the acclaimed novel by Tarashankar Bandopadhyay “Hansuli Banker Upokatha“? Well! Hansuli Bank is just 14 kms. from Bhagabatipur. This geological wonder is a network of tertiary rivers curving frequently making scores of twists and turns within a kilometer or so and somewhat resembling a piece of jewelery worn by women from a distance. Tarashankar Bandopadhyay’s parental house has been recently converted into a museum and you would find some rare collection of photographs, art pieces and letters of this outstanding personality on display.
Nearby attractions of Bhagabatipur: Apart from nearby Santiniketan, where you can explore the tribal villages surrounding Kopai River and Sonajhuri Forest, you can also spend some time visiting the galleries of the museum dedicated to the life and works of the World Poet Rabindranath Tagore and spend sometime in the quiet corners of his Ashram. However, Bhagabatipur has few more surprises to offer! While staying here, you can take a pilgrimage tour to 05 Shaktipeeths located within 50 kms. of Bhagabatipur. There is no place in India, which can offer you this convenience. The 05 Shakti Peethas near to Bhagabatipur are Bakreshwar (Portion between the Eyebrows), Nandikishori (Necklace), Kankalitala (Pelvis), Nalateshwari (Throat) and Fullora (Lips). The Siddhi Peeth of Tarapith is also within 40 kms. of Bhagabatipur. Then there is a nearby Wood Fossil Park too, where you would find fossilised remains of trees being displayed. The magnificent Zamindar Bari of Hetampur, with its Corinthian Pillars and never-ending corridors is within 40 kms. too.
Things to do at Bhagabatipur: Here, you can do fishing on a 05 Bigha pond. If you are new to this sport of angling then you can use one of the Country Rods – Cheep but if you are a pro then you are advised to bring your own gear. You can find a suitable spot along the pond and cast your fishing line. The usual catch comprises Rohu, Mrigel, Katla and more. In the evenings, you can arrange for a Barbeque and treat yourself to some nice and juicy barbecue chicken under the cover of starry nights. The resort area has a small vegetable garden where all sorts of seasonal vegetables are grown and guests can enjoy picking some fresh vegetables.
How to reach Bhagabatipur: Bhagabatipur is just 12 kms. from Bolpur which is the main rail-head here. However, Ahmadpur (AMP) is the nearest railway station to Bhagabatipur. You can get regular trains to Bolpur as well as Ahmadpur from Howrah and Sealdah. If you are availing buses, then regular buses ply from Kolkata to Bolpur too.
Best time to visit Bhagabatipur: You can visit Bhagabatipur anytime of the year. The monsoons bring the rolling dark clouds over the horizon and the winters give a sparkling weather just fine for your long walks and local sightseeing tours.
Lodging and dining facilities in Bhagabatipur: Presently, there are four bedrooms within two containers. Located within the gardens and children’s park, these spacious Double Bed container rooms are equipped with all modern facilities like electricity and attached western bathrooms with hot water geysers, Air Conditioning, Televisions and comfy beds and couches. There is a separate dining area and a kitchen for the guests, which is also within a container. The resort also has a splash pool, vegetable gardens and a huge pond. Food is essentially traditional Bengali cuisine and most of the produces are locally procured.
