Just 09 kms. from the din of Darjeeling, is a quiet refuge called Gumti Gaon with sweeping views of the lush rolling hills, farmlands and Mt. Kanchenjungha. At Gumti Gaon, you can still enjoy the bird calls in the early mornings, take a village walk through tea gardens, enjoy gardening in the farms and get wet at the nearby waterfall. If you are one of those who want to stay close to Darjeeling yet shun its crazy traffic and tourist rush, then Gumtigaon could be your pick, this season. All the sightseeing spots of Darjeeling can be covered within an hour’s drive from Gumti Gaon.

Places to see in Gumti Gaon: Few acres of farmland and few hundred acres of tea gardens surround Gumti Gaon. You can take walks along these tea gardens and farmlands and keep yourself busy in the early mornings. You can also drop at the nearby Gorkha Stadium, children park or the race course. Although Mt. Kanchenjungha is partly visible from the resort itself but a visit to the nearby view point would give you a panoramic view of lush tea gardens with the mighty snow peaks forming a backdrop.

Nearby attractions of Gumti Gaon: All the major attractions of Darjeeling like the Shrubbery Nightingale Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling Mall (Chowrasta), Darjeeling Zoo, Darjeeling Toy Train, and St. Andrew’s Church are within 10 kms. of Gumtigaon. The Famous Tiger Hill is around 20 kms. away and takes around 50 mins. to reach from Gumtigaon. Ghoom, Batasia Loop and Gorkha Memorial is around 17 kms. away. However, if you are planning to explore the other side of Darjeeling, like the serene waterfalls and tea gardens, then you would have to take the road down to Mineral Springs, where you would come across a hidden waterfall just 05 kms. from Gumti Gaon.

Things to do in Gumti Gaon: Bird watching in the early mornings and late afternoons along the forests and farmlands of Gumti Gaon are some of the favourite activities of guests staying here. You can also catch the sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjungha, explore the surrounding tea gardens and take a walk in the villages sneak peeking into the daily lives of the villagers. You can get yourself wet at a nearby waterfall or just enjoy your day hiking along the Himalayan foothills. Evenings can be spent with friends enjoying a Barbeque or just idling away at the at the resort’s gazebo staring at the endless sparkling stars and flickering lights along the hills.

Best time to visit Gumtigaon: You can visit Gumti Gaon anytime of the year. Winters are perfect for enjoying the splendid views of Mt. Kanchenjungha Tea gardens and farms are lush during monsoons whereas looming in the distance.

How to reach Gumtigaon: You can hire any car from Darjeeling to Gumti Gaon. It hardly takes 20 mins. from Darjeeling to cover this 09-km long road. Darjeeling is well connected to Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri and Bagdogra Airport by regular Taxi services and buses. If you have some time in hand and is not in the mood of scrutinizing your wristwatch frequently, then you can take the toy train to reach Darjeeling too.

Lodging and Food at Gumti Gaon: Our village resort presently hosts 02 Double Bed rooms and 01 family room for its guests. It is also bedecked by a traditionally designed open kitchen cum dining area and a Machaan (Gazebo) overlooking the verdant Himalayan foothills, forests, tea gardens and Mt. Kanchenjungha. All our rooms are wood paneled and come with the regular facilities like Television, attached western bathrooms with hot water geysers, comfy beds and couches. Most of the ingredients used to cook up the sumptuous food for the guests is locally sourced from our farm and is completely organic. The food is prepared mostly on firewood ovens and is served hot with care and love. It is mostly Indian cuisine but we also churn up some local dishes to surprise our guests.
